We welcome Coloradan John Legnard to the podcast to discuss wolves and their reintroduction in Colorado. John is a dedicated conservationist and a concerned citizen of Colorado.
The Colorado Parks and Wildlife Commission approved the final Colorado Wolf Restoration and Management Plan in May 2023, paving the way for CPW biologists to reintroduce gray wolves west of the Continental Divide and meet the voter-approved deadline of December 31, 2023.
John shares with us the perspectives of many rural ranchers regarding the plan and some of their concerns. It’s clear that acquiring wolf source stock has been challenging for the State. John and many others are calling for a pause while the State gets its plans in order. They have asked British Columbia to delay its approval, allowing for another year to implement systems that would ensure broader success for the reintroduction.
