Women Shaping Conservation (WSC) is a platform for women whose passions centre around outdoor pursuits and endeavour to participate in conservation efforts.
Our Mission
To inspire and nurture women providing an inclusive community where all can come together to enjoy the outdoors, including hunting, and conserve wild sheep, wildlife and the landscapes they inhabit.
Our Vision
To bring women together through conservation, to support, inspire and create a global community that enjoys outdoor pursuits, gives back and supports the wildlife and wild places they roam.
Our women’s platform offers many areas of interest such as learning about conservation at our fundraising events, becoming a volunteer, assisting ‘new’ women hunters or for women who just love the outdoors and want to give back.
Women Shaping Conservation isn’t just about women though. Our goal is to create awareness and in doing so we invite everyone to join in. This means that men and youth are welcome to participate. We have an amazing volunteer committee: Carmen Waters, Colin Peters, Cory Mitton, James Mitton, Kristen Eppele, Kyle Stelter, Rebecca Peters, and Tiffany Bader.
The Women Shaping Conservation team is here to help in any way possible particularly when it comes to conservation. For example, our team volunteered at the Jurassic Classic this summer by hosting a wine and cheese party on registration day.
We also hosted a great evening of laughter, empowerment, and conservation at Krause Berry Farms on June 17th, 2022. We had a great turnout with special guests Dr. Helen Schwantje and Renée Thornton. The event was packed with excitement, music, food, silent auction items, prizes, and a private screening of the new WSSBC film ‘Transmission’. The committee had so much fun organizing the event which took place in the lower mainland and we are proud to say it was a successful evening. WSC is an organization to connect easily and develop strong relationships while working together to raise awareness and funds for wild sheep and their habitat.

Rebecca Peters- Chair
Rebecca was born in Manitoba but raised in British Columbia (BC) which offered her a
diverse range of experiences and opportunities to explore different environments and
landscapes. Spending summers at their cabin on Hornby Island also gave her the
chance to connect with nature and develop a love for wildlife. Fishing with her dad and
swimming in the ocean allowed Rebecca to learn about and appreciate the natural
world around her, even though her parents weren’t hunters, they still valued spending
time outdoors and instilled that same love of nature in Rebecca. This offered a well-
rounded childhood that allowed her to develop a strong connection to the environment
and wildlife.
Rebecca’s journey of observing and hunting with her husband led her to discover a
passion for hunting, conservation and giving back. In 2021, Rebecca applied to and was
selected for the Wild Sheep Foundation’s, Women Hunt® Program. The New Hunter
course helped her develop her skills and knowledge further and its clear she is
dedicated to hunting/conservation and wants to make a difference. These steps along
her journey helped create the Wild Sheep Society of BC, Women Shaping Conservation
platform. The platform is an excellent way to bring like-minded women together who
share a passion for the outdoors, hunting and conservation efforts. As Chair of the
committee, Rebecca will have an opportunity to lead and inspire other women who want
to get involved but may not know where to start. Rebecca is excited to learn and grow
while pursuing her love of hunting and the outdoors.
Carmen Waters- Committee Member
Carmen approaches life with a blend of determination, heart, and a touch of humor. She’s devoted to caring for the ones she loves, while also embracing new challenges and experiences.
Her connection to nature began early, following her dad to the next best fishing spot, spending time on the ocean with her family or cherished walks through the forest with her grandmother, where she learned about plants, trees, and animals. These experiences not only deepened her love for being in nature but also taught her about the ecology of animals and the importance of conservation. This early education instilled in her a lifelong love of nature and all its creatures, along with a commitment to their preservation.
Today, Carmen is channeling that passion into her involvement with Women Shaping Conservation, a journey that began thanks to a nudge from good friends who encouraged her to volunteer for WSS. She’s diving into the world of conservation with the same curiosity and enthusiasm that defined her childhood, now exploring the culture of hunting and everything it entails. She’s also making it a point to involve her kids, sparking their interest in fishing and hunting, and passing down the values and love for nature that have always been central to her life.
Whether she’s learning about wild sheep conservation or picking up new skills in the field, Carmen wants to make a difference—both for the environment and for the next generation.
